Coarsening behaviour of M23C6 carbides in creep-resistant steel exposed to high temperatures

چکیده
High operating temperatures can have very deleterious effects on the long-term performance of high-Cr, creep-resistant steels used, for example, in the structural components of power plants. For the popular creep-resistant steel X20CrMoV12.1 we analysed the processes of carbide growth using a variety of analytical techniques: transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and diffraction (TED), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The evolution of the microstructure after different aging times was the basis for a much better understanding of the boundary-migration processes and the growth of the carbides. We present an explanation as to why some locations are preferential for this growth, and using EBSD we were able to define the proper orientational relationship between the carbides and the matrix.

It is crucial for the carbon concentration of 9% Cr steel to be reduced to a very low level, so as to promote the formation of MX nitrides rich in vanadium as very fine and thermally stable particles to enable prolonged periods of exposure at elevated temperatures and also to eliminate Cr-rich carbides M23C6. The 25Cr-35Ni heat resistant steel has been widely used when resistance to oxidation and creep rapture at elevated temperatures is required. In this paper, the microstructural effect on the weldability of this alloy is investigated. The results of this study indicate that this steel has a perfect weldability in the as cast condition but does not possess good weldability in the aged condition. T...

Laves-phase precipitation and coarsening of tungsten strengthened 9% Cr steel under thermal aging at 923K up to 8000 h was reported in this paper, where the information of the evolution of mean particle size, the number density, the volume fraction of Laves-phase precipitates and the partition coefficients of W and Mo in the matrix over the aging time were determined. The change of hardness ove...
متن کاملThe development of advanced creep constitutive equations for high chromium steel P91at low stress range
Diffusion dominates the creep deformation at low stress range for high chromium steel P91. Brittle creep fracture is caused by cavity nucleation, growth and coalescence of cavities and large precipitates (Laves phase and M23C6) at grain boundary under low stress range. At low stress range, a linear relation between strain at failure and different stresses has been described. Moreover, the minim...
